Northport

Environmental
& Sustainability Officer

Help shape the environmental performance of one of Northland’s most important infrastructure businesses.

Northport is a busy, growing commercial port with a diverse operating environment spanning the port, marina, vessel hardstand and associated infrastructure. We’re looking for an Environmental & Sustainability Officer to help us manage our environmental responsibilities today while contributing to how we operate sustainably into the future.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll have the opportunity to get out from behind the desk and see the practical side of environmental management in a busy marine and industrial environment.

What are we looking for

We’re looking for someone who combines sound environmental knowledge with a practical, solutions-focused approach.

We're looking for someone with:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in environmental science, environmental management, resource management, sustainability or a related discipline – or equivalent relevant professional experience
  • The ability to collect, manage, analyse and communicate environmental information.
  • A willingness to undertake field-based work in a marine and industrial environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • NZ Drivers License

What's the opportunity?

You’ll play an important role in ensuring Northport meets its environmental and resource consent obligations, while helping our operational teams identify practical opportunities to improve environmental performance. Your work will be varied and practical. One day you could be undertaking an environmental inspection or stormwater monitoring around the port; another could involve working with a regulator, reviewing consent conditions, analysing environmental data, updating an environmental management plan or helping an operational team address an environmental issue.

Why Northport?

This is an opportunity to work in an environment where environmental management is closely connected to real-world infrastructure and operations. Northport is a critical piece of Northland’s infrastructure and operates in a unique marine environment. You’ll work alongside people across port operations, engineering, infrastructure, maintenance, marina and commercial functions, giving you the opportunity to see the direct impact of your work. As our business continues to develop, so too will our environmental and sustainability function. This role provides the opportunity to help shape that development, rather than simply maintaining an established system. If you’re an environmental professional who enjoys variety, practical problem-solving and working with people across an operational business, we’d like to hear from you.

Apply now and help us build the next chapter of environmental management at Northport.
